Care Guide

Size Guide
We recommend measuring the inside diameter of a ring you already own that fits how you would like, or wrapping a piece of string around your finger and matching the measurement to the size guide.

A few things you should consider:

If you are between two different sizes, you should pick the larger size.

Measure your finger at the end of the day, when your fingers are at their largest.

Your ring should fit comfortably, so that it is tight enough not to fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckles.

Every ring size chart will vary slightly in its measurements. Any previous measurement you may have been given by other jewellers may have been measured on a different system and could vary slightly.

General Care

Avoid wearing your jewellery when completing activities such as cleaning, gardening, swimming and showering. Avoid impact with hard surfaces, including other items of jewellery. This will protect against scratching and chipping.

Do not apply cosmetics, moisturisers, perfume and hair products while wearing your jewellery.

Store your item in a moisture free room, in the box or pouch provided. Moisture and humidity can cause oxidisation and tarnishing, so please avoid storing your jewellery in the bathroom. All metals oxidise naturally with time and will require maintenance.

Cleaning

Plated metals will react with chemicals and can cause jewellery to tarnish, however cleaning and storing your jewellery correctly will help to minimise this.

Gently polish your items to bring back a shine and remove any tarnish. Take care not to over polish plated objects as you may remove the plating.

Our natural timber furniture is handmade from recycled and antique materials, and therefore items may differ from the image in grain, tone and colour, as well as showing individual textures and markings. These unique variations highlight the natural characteristics of the timber and are not considered a fault.

General Care
Overtime timber may absorb moisture or dry out causing timber to split or develop fine cracks. While your item developing a natural patina over time, we recommend keeping your timber furniture out of direct sunlight and out of the elements including rain and salt air to prolong the life of your piece.

If you would like to add a protective seal to your raw timber, we recommend natural beeswax oil as a non-toxic, natural treatment. This treatment will need to be reapplied over time. Please note for any untreated timbers this will help to avoid stains and marks from daily use, however, it will deepen the colour of your piece.

Cleaning
To remove dirt and dust, treated timber may be cleaned with a damp, clean cloth. To clean untreated timber use a dry, clean cloth to avoid staining or marking. Use a coaster, placemat or trivet when placing glasses or any hot items or plates on your timber piece. Any spills should be attended to immediately with a clean, dry cloth to avoid further staining or marking.

Mould Care
Indoor and outdoor spaces subject to humidity and limited airflow can encourage mould growth on timber furniture. As mould can occur on any surface in such an environment, this is not considered a fault of the furniture. Before using a household mould cleaner on your furniture pieces, we recommend spot testing to avoid staining the timber, taking extra care on untreated timber such as elm. Using a fine sandpaper on untreated timber may help remove surface mould from your piece, keeping in mind this will remove any coatings or stains on treated timber.

The CLO Capsule comprises a curation of European antiques and vintage treasures. Due to the vintage nature of these items, please handle with care. Items are recommended for indoor use only.

We have carefully preserved these precious pieces from the past so small marks or vintage wear is to be expected.

General Care
Our elm furniture is kept in a raw, untreated state to highlight the natural characteristics of the recycled timber.

We recommend elm items for indoor use only, ideally placed out of direct sunlight. Elm timber will absorb moisture in an outdoor setting which may cause expansion and splitting to the timber. If you would like to add a protective seal to your piece, we recommend natural beeswax oil. This treatment will darken the timber and will need to be resealed over time.

Cleaning
Use a clean, dry microfibre cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Household chemicals or water-based moisture will leave a stain on untreated elm timber.

General Care
The teak furniture in both our Core and Antique collections are made from 100% solid teak.

Both our Core and Antique Teak pieces are finished with a clear coating to keep the timber protected, allowing for use in both indoor and undercover outdoor environments.

Greying of teak is a natural characteristic of the timber, especially when used in an undercover outdoor environment. To keep your teak item in its optimal condition we recommend keeping it covered from the elements including rain, direct sunlight and salt air. You may like to reapply a protective clear coat to your teak furniture, and more regularly if using in an outdoor setting. Were recommend beeswax oil for a natural finish.

Cleaning
Use a clean, dry microfibre cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Household chemicals or water-based moisture may leave a stain on teak timber, always spot test before use.

Outdoor Furniture –
General Care

All CLO outdoor furniture is for undercover outdoor use only. We recommend keeping your item out of direct exposure to the elements to prolong the life of your furniture. To prevent the greying off of timber, a clear coat may need to be reapplied, we recommend beeswax oil for a natural finish. Please note this may change the colour of the timber, especially on raw timber items.

Outdoor Upholstery –
General Care

All CLO outdoor cushions, inserts and upholstery are water resistant and recommended for undercover outdoor use only. Keep all upholstered outdoor undercover furniture out of the elements including direct sunlight, rain and salt air. In extreme weather conditions we recommend storing your upholstery indoors.

Cleaning

Please view the individual product for unique care instructions before getting your item professionally cleaned. Some outdoor cushion covers may be removable and machine washable on a lukewarm cycle. If in doubt, remove the covers and wipe with a damp microfibre cloth first. Always spot test before using cleaning products on your item.

Being a natural product there may be subtle differences in the tone and texture of your leather item. We consider any markings, scratches and scars part of the natural characteristics of the leather. As we use a combination of natural and dyed leather, colour variations are to be expected, especially with tan or lighter coloured leather pieces. While we endeavor to colour match each item, please email online@clostudios.com.au for images prior to purchasing for specific images.

General Care
We use high quality leather, ensuring the longevity of your piece. Over time, leather may stretch and age, developing a natural patina that should be celebrated. To prolong the life of your leather item, keep items indoors and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and heating sources. We recommend applying a natural leather conditioner regularly to high traffic pieces, ensuring to spot test before use.

Cleaning
Before using a leather cleaner or conditioner, spot test on the underside of your item and follow the instructions to avoid staining and streaking. Treat spills or stains immediately with a soft, damp cloth, do not rub.

General Care
Our rattan and woven furniture is handwoven using durable materials made for use. If you are using your woven or rattan furniture in a high traffic situation we recommend using a seat cushion to prolong the life of your item. Over time the weave may fray or come undone, depending on the level of damage it may be possible to glue damaged strips down or weave back in. If a string breaks we suggest contacting a furniture repairer to assist.

Cleaning
To remove dust or dirt from your rattan and woven furniture, we recommend using a soft brush vacuum or dry toothbrush. For poly-synthetic weaves, wiping the surface down a damp cloth or water based cleaning spray may remove more stubborn marks, ensuring to spot test on the underside of your item before use.

Due to the handmade nature of hand built and antique pottery, slight variation may occur in size, colour, texture and form from the image depicted on the website. This is not considered a fault and refunds will not be issued. Please email online@clostudios.com.au for exact images prior to purchase if you are concerned.

General Care
Most of our decorative ceramic items including terracotta pots are left unglazed and are not watertight. Always use a removable glass vase or plastic pot that can be removed for watering when storing live flowers and plants.

Terracotta pots will absorb heat if used in direct sunlight. Please be wary of plants that may be sensitive to direct heat.

Cleaning
Unglazed pottery is not waterproof or dishwasher friendly and should be wiped cleaned with a clean, dry cloth. Glazed pottery items may be washed with mild soapy, warm water. Please check individual products for dishwasher safety.

Be sure to check the size of the lampshade ring prior to purchasing separate shades. Please note our lampshades are not a universal fit and you may need to purchase a resizer separately.

General Care
Lampshades are delicate and can dent easily so be careful when handling. When changing the light bulbs, hold on to the lamp base to ensure it is secure.

Cleaning

We recommend lightly dusting your item with a clean, dry cloth or duster being careful not to dent your lampshade. Do not use cleaning products on items unless spot tested prior.

Tuareg Rugs –
General Care

Woven by the Tuareg people of North-West Africa, Tuareg mats are handmade with reed and leather making them incredibly durable. We recommend keeping your rug out of direct sunlight to avoid fading.

Cleaning
Wipe off with a soft dry cloth or vacuum lightly with a soft brush to remove dirt and dust. For a more thorough clean every once in a while, wipe your mat with a soft cloth lightly soaked in vegetable oil. This will help to clean, protect and add shine.

Wool Rugs –
General Care

Made from the finest quality wool these naturally dyed rugs are handwoven using traditional techniques. Keep your rug out of direct sunlight to avoid fading and rotate rugs regularly to share the wear, especially if your rug is used in a high traffic area.

Cleaning
Vacuum your rug regularly on a light setting to remove dirt, dust and debris from your rug. We recommend using a reputable cleaner if you are getting your rug professionally cleaned.

Armadillo Rugs –

General Care
Rotate rugs regularly to share the wear, especially if your rug is used in a high traffic area. Every few months, turn your rug over and place it in the sun for an hour to reduce bacteria.

We recommend high pile rugs for low foot traffic areas such as the bedroom, and low pile rugs for high traffic areas such as living/dining. Excess piling for wool rugs may be caused by the rug being in the wrong area.

Cleaning
To ensure the longevity of your Armadillo rug, please vacuum your rug regularly. Shedding of loose fibres will occur with a new rug. If you spill something on a jute rug, always wipe as soon as possible, but be assured that the stain will fade in to the rug over time. It is possible to refresh your rug with gentle treatment or professional rug cleaning.

Visit www.armadillo-co.com/care-and-maintenance for more detailed information on how to care for your rug.

Beni Rugs –
Vacuuming

All new rugs will shed upon arrival. This shedding is completely normal and is not a sign that your rug is falling apart! Rather, it's a sign that your rug was handwoven from all-natural materials. Each Beni Rug is washed and dried up to 5 times before sending it to you. It's a good idea to vacuum often at first until the shedding ceases. Here are a couple of things to consider when vacuuming:

  1. Motorized attachments with teeth are too aggressive. Avoid them to extend the life of your rug. Set your vacuum to the highest height setting to allow room and appropriate suction for the thick pile of the rug. If you are able to control the power of your vacuum cleaner, ensure that it is not on the most powerful setting. If you ordered a flatweave, the lower setting is fine.
  2. Vacuum side to side (parallel to the tassels). Your movements should be slow and steady in order to suck up as much dirt and dust as possible.
  3. For an extra deep clean, vacuum the back of the rug as well as the front. Vacuum the ground and then finish with vacuuming the front side of the rug one more time.
  4. If practical for your home and the size of your rug, take the rug outside and shake it (Moroccan style).

Spot Cleaning
Try to get to the spill right away! Wool naturally repels moisture so just lay down some paper towels and let them do the work. Try not to press the spill into the rug. Once most of the spill has been absorbed, if the stain is still present:

  1. Spray a solution of white distilled vinegar and water (1:1) onto the stain.
  2. Sprinkle some baking soda onto the area and scrub gently with a soft bristle brush.
  3. Soak up any excess vinegar solution, rinse with clean water, and then blot dry.
  4. Once fully dry, you can vacuum the area normally to soften and reintegrate the pile.

Vinegar is great at naturally neutralizing pet odors. If needed, repeat the steps above and replace the baking soda and vinegar with warm water and mild/soft soap (test a small area first to make sure the soap is compatible).

Deep Cleaning
If you have a serious spill or your rug requires a deeper clean, a local, reputable rug cleaner will know how to take care of your rug. Inform them that it's 100% wool.

Our range of soft furnishings and cushions includes handwoven and screenprinted designs that may present variation in colour and pattern. This is not considered a fault and makes every cushion unique. Please contact us prior to purchase for exact images of your item if you are concerned.

Cleaning
Screenprinted, boucle and handwoven cushions are not machine washable. We recommend gently hand washing with a mild detergent and leaving to air dry. Do not tumble dry.

Please note that dye may run when washing Earth Linen Cushions and Boucle cushions. Gently hand wash separately with a mild detergent.
