At Home with Chloe Tozer ← Newer Older → ← Newer Older → A collection of elegant forms inspired by the juxtaposition between old-world design and modern sensibilities, Choux – CLO’s latest collection of Australian made furniture – was dreamt up by Chloe Tozer when designing her home Villa des Fleurs. A highly personal collection that celebrates colour, materiality and local manufacturing, while referencing memories of her childhood and dream states. Chloe invites us into her home, Villa des Fleurs to share her inspirations behind the collection, her tips for embracing colour in the home, her favourite ways to entertain and how she accesses her creativity. On Choux... On the Inspiration behind Choux... During the conceptualisation of Choux, I was working on the interior of our home Villa des Fleurs, both inspired one another. I envisioned what would be sitting in a villa by the Mediterranean Sea in the 1950s, I've always loved traditional silhouettes and French elegance when it comes to furniture design. When looking for soft pieces for my home, I look for cosy hard-wearing fabrics, and forms where comfort meets beauty. On the creative process... Creating a concept from a time or place in my mind. Visualisation is an amazing tool and it's where I work from when designing a collection, whenever I’m working on a concept I escape back to my imagination. I collect physical elements, such as vintage book references, fabrics, cuttings or objects. Creating a physical palette of colours and textures. Once I have the core ideas mapped out, I create a digital canvas layering all the elements. The canvas will become a journal for the collection, sometimes building up to 50 pages, full of sketches, ideas, notes, inspiration and will keep evolving through the process. A time and place you had in your mind when conceptualising Choux... My grandmother had a pink velvet slipper chair in the corner of her bedroom in the 90’s, with a silk bullion fringe. Choux was conceptualised from memories of my childhood, my love for design history and the present moment. An artist or soundtrack you were listening to... Enya — Carribean Blue. The anthem of my childhood. It reminds me of the comfort of ‘home’. Describe the colour palette... Honey — The warm buzzing of our beehive.Chocolate — Comforting like a warm cacao.Lake — A morning swim, a daily ritual.Butterbean — A favourite Mediterranean dish.
